Namaste.🙏.…..
Data Science is the science of studying data. It is an inter-disciplinary field that uses scientific methods, processes, algorithms and systems to extract knowledge and insights from data. Data can be in from of an Excel Spreadsheet, Databases, and Google Forms etc. People who study Data science as a Career are called Data Scientist. To gain valuable information and hidden information is a Skill of a data scientist.
Whole world is digitalizing due Internet-of-Things (IoT) & 5G. These two are going to change the world in an exclusively different way. The use of physical devices would be very less. More data will be stored in the clouds than the actual rain in the clouds. So to manage, analyze and make worthy use of so much of data we need data scientist in almost every corporate. Data Science can be applied to any sector or any field and not restricted to any one field and hence it is also known as an interdisciplinary field. Example: An Advertising company should know how the customers react to their advertisement, what is their view on advertisement. A Financial Company can view their previous quarter result to analyze the key factor behind the result. A Student uses Google form to collect data, make chart and analyzes it.
Ranging from Times of India to CNBC, all are speaking that Data Scientist job is the best and the most emerging job of the decade. In earlier days, if someone had a career in CS & IT, it would be of great pride but now-a-days it has been headed by a career in data science. CS & IT are important but data science has emerged as an upcoming stream in Engineering. The reason it is being important and so promising is due to supply and demand gap; the need of data scientist is growing at an exponential rate but supply is no near to it. Hence, the openings of Data Science jobs are around increasing to more than 50% every year. For four years (2016, 17, 18, 19) in a row, the role of a data scientist has been named the no. 1 job in the US by Glassdoor. The World Economic Forum predicts that by 2022, data scientists and analysts will become the no.1 emerging role in the world.
“India likely to see 62% rise in data science job openings in 2020”
Do you remember the last time when you went to a Mall, and you had filled a form a Lucky draw with your name, contact details, E-mail, Date of Birth to get a trip to India, America, Paris etc by some travel/holidays related companies and most of you would have not got any follow-up calls after that. This way they meant to collect data and then a list is prepared which gets sold to different marketing companies and hence you get call from different salesperson of different companies and you wonder how they got your number.
Another way to collect data is when you sign up on any website, Apps etc. You are a part of their database. They collect your order, feedback, Replies, comments etc. So this adds to YOUR data in their directory.
What to do
in it?
The main objective after taking your ship in the field of data science is that it gives you a variety of options to explore. These options are:
Data Scientist
Skills Needed: Programming languages (SQL, PL-SQL).
Software Acquainted: Oracle, IBM D2, and Mongo DB, PostgresSQL, Microsoft SQL Server, Informix, and PhpMyAdmin.
Data Science (DS) is a separate and distinguished field than CS & IT; hence it is a unique stream in Engineering. Students can do Engineering in CS/IT with a specialization in DS which can be done using online courses available in various websites like Nptel, Swayam, UpGrad, Stanford, Udemy etc. Students can find courses related to Data Science on these different websites.
Fact: DS is there to create more in Digital Industry and NOT to overtake any other Job in Digital industry.

Speedy
Facts
ü A stack of CD-ROMs equal to
the current global digital storage capacity would tower 80,000 km beyond the
moon.
ü There are nearly as many
pieces of digital information as there are stars in the universe.
Why is it Important & Trending?
Whole world is digitalizing due Internet-of-Things (IoT) & 5G. These two are going to change the world in an exclusively different way. The use of physical devices would be very less. More data will be stored in the clouds than the actual rain in the clouds. So to manage, analyze and make worthy use of so much of data we need data scientist in almost every corporate. of Labour Statistics
Speedy Facts
ü By 2020, there will be more than 50
billion smart connected devices in the world, collecting, analyzing and sharing
data.
ü By 2020, about 1.7 megabytes of new
information will be created every second for every human on the planet.
ü According to an E-Learning Platform ‘Great
Learning’, in 2019 only close to 97,000
positions related to analytics and data were vacant due to dearth of
qualified talent.
How Data is Generated?
Do you remember the last time when you went to a Mall, and you had filled a form a Lucky draw with your name, contact details, E-mail, Date of Birth to get a trip to India, America, Paris etc by some travel/holidays related companies and most of you would have not got any follow-up calls after that. Another way to collect data is when you sign up on any website, Apps etc. You are a part of their database. They collect your order, feedback, Replies, comments etc. So this adds to YOUR data in their directory.
Data collection ranges from small
data like Google forms to very large data like Company’s Financial Data.
So you would be thinking that data is
nothing but an Excel or a spreadsheet file? Its unusual answer is “YES” but it is more than it actually.
Let’s take live example that we are collecting
so much data of Covid-19 cases around the world and tracking and analyzing the
trends and its footsteps around the world.
Speedy Facts
ü 1 billion pieces of content are shared via Facebook’s Open Graph every day.
ü 1 billion pieces of content are shared via Facebook’s Open Graph every day.
ü We perform 40,000 search queries every
second on Google alone, 1.2 trillion searches per year.
ü A 10% increase in data accessibility
will result in more than $65 million additional net income for the typical
Fortune 1000 company.
The main objective after taking your ship in the field of data science is that it gives you a variety of options to explore. These options are:
Data Scientist
As normal scientist work out with
different chemicals to get 1 correct product, similarly data scientist work
with different data elements to get the optimum analyses. Businesses use data scientists to source,
manage, and analyze large amounts of unstructured data. Results are then incorporated
and communicated to key stakeholders to drive strategic decision-making in the
organization.
Skills needed:
Programming skills (SAS, R, Python), statistical and mathematical skills,
storytelling and data visualization, Hadoop, SQL, machine learning.
Business
Analysts
Business analysts (BAs) are
responsible for bridging the gap between IT and the business using data
analytics to assess processes, determine requirements and deliver data-driven
recommendations and reports to executives and stakeholders. BAs engage with
business leaders and users to understand how data-driven changes to process,
products, services, software and hardware can improve efficiencies and add
value. This profile is more focused Financial side rather than Corporate Side.
Skills Needed:
SQL Queries, Data Models, Visio, PowerPoint and some Wireframe tools.
Data
Analyst
Data analysts bridge the gap between
data scientists and business analysts. They are provided with the questions
that need answering from an organization and then organize and analyze data to
find results that align with high-level business strategy. Data analysts are
responsible for translating technical analysis to qualitative action items and
effectively communicating their findings to diverse stakeholders.
Skills needed:
Programming skills (SAS, R, and Python), statistical and mathematical skills,
data wrangling, and data visualization.
Data
Engineer
Data engineers manage exponential
amounts of rapidly changing data. They focus on the development, deployment,
management, and optimization of data pipelines and infrastructure to transform
and transfer data to data scientists for querying.
Skills Needed:
Programming languages (Java, Scala), NoSQL databases (Mongo DB, Cassandra DB), and
frameworks (Apache Hadoop).
Database Administrator
The job of a database administrator
(DBA) is to ensure that the database is secure, is available to all the
concerned users and is performing properly at all times. The DBA uses
specialised software to store and organise the data.
Skills Needed: Programming languages (SQL, PL-SQL).
Software Acquainted: Oracle, IBM D2, and Mongo DB, PostgresSQL, Microsoft SQL Server, Informix, and PhpMyAdmin.
Statistician
The Statistician collects, analyzes and interprets quantitative data with the help theories and methodologies specific to statistics. Their job responsibilities include determining methods for collecting data and decide what data are needed to solve the given problems.
The Statistician collects, analyzes and interprets quantitative data with the help theories and methodologies specific to statistics. Their job responsibilities include determining methods for collecting data and decide what data are needed to solve the given problems.
Skills Needed:
Applied and theoretical statistics including hypothesis testing and summary
statistics & Mathematics using calculus, linear algebra, and probability;
Languages(R and SAS, Python, C/C++, Java, Perl);Hadoop-based analytics( Hive
and Pig); Databases such as NoSQL and cloud computing.
How is it different from Computer Science (CS) and
Information Technology (IT)?
Data Science (DS) is a separate and distinguished field than CS & IT; hence it is a unique stream in Engineering. Students can do Engineering in CS/IT with a specialization in DS which can be done using online courses available in various websites like Nptel, Swayam, UpGrad, Stanford, Udemy etc. Students can find courses related to Data Science on these different websites.
CS contains more about Coding and
solving complex problems using languages like C, C++, Python OR Creating apps
using Java. IT on the other hand is the mastermind behind Web development using
tools like PHP, Ajax, HTML 5, and CSS etc.
DS uses coding but it is not used to
write code for executing a Program or to customize a website or App but you
need to code here for cleaning your Data, Apply your appropriate models to your
data & to use different visualization techniques to show your analytics.
So CS and IT will always be the backbone of Digital Industry but the need
of Data Scientist is going to grow at an exponential rate due to limited
availability of data scientist in the Industry. So DS is never meant to take
the jobs of CS or IT but will help to create more jobs in the digital field.
Myth Buster
Myth: “DS is the only job that will remain in the Digital industry”

Fact: DS is there to create more in Digital Industry and NOT to overtake any other Job in Digital industry.
Where can we study it?
As awareness regarding Data Science is increasing in the industry, colleges and universities are now opening their doors towards this stream by offering various courses and programs related to it.
Currently there are many institutes
in 2020 which provides a reputed Bachelor and Masters Degree in Data Science like
Mukesh Patel School of Technology Management and Engineering (MPSTME), NMIMS,
Manipal Institute of Technology, Sharda University, Indian Institute of Technology
(IIT), Indian Institute of Science Bangalore (IISc) etc.
